Ant Marching, Candy Angles, and No Magic Today

I tried flipping the candy every which way, hoping for a composition breakthrough—but turns out, the original sketch still wins!

Ant Marching, Candy Angles, and No Magic Today
Wait… is the ant in the back flying??

Today I kept working on the ant idea and tried out some different composition options. The past two Fridays, I had these surprising breakthroughs during my “composition experiment day,” and they really helped me deepen the story of each illustration. So I was kind of hoping for the same magic to happen again today…

Why do the ant’s arms keep getting weirdly long!?

I tried placing the candy horizontally, vertically, and diagonally, but… nope, no composition magic this time! The original horizontal version still feels like the strongest one. It just works—the three ants marching together look the most fun and natural that way.

Yeah… this one still feels the best. Glad I tried a few versions!

So even though I was a little bummed that no new magic happened, I also felt strangely satisfied. Maybe sometimes the original idea really is the best one.
