Holiday Anticipation Sketches for Charlie Yellow’s Osusowake Club
Working through the first round of illustration ideas for my Osusowake Club holiday postcard set. Excitement is definitely in the air!
Today I kept working on the first illustration for Charlie Yellow’s Osusowake Club! Building on yesterday's brainstorming session, I flipped through my Pinterest holiday inspiration board and browsed the rough notes I made during last month’s early research. Then I jotted down all the ideas that still felt exciting—the ones I want to draw now.
This season’s theme is holidays—specifically, sharing the joy of what's about to begin. That "just-before" excitement! So I focused on ideas that capture those early, heartwarming moments:
- A Christmas tree decorating itself in front of a mirror
- A parent and child baking a holiday cake, with the child sneakily taste-testing
- Someone arriving with a pile of gifts so high they can barely see over it
- A reindeer writing a letter to Santa (a little absurd, but fun!)
- A character zooming down on a sled, like they just can’t wait for the holidays
- Someone tying up their ice skate laces—ready for fun
- A character who’s so excited they break into a little dance (always a favorite!)
I can’t choose just one—they all feel so full of cheer! I’m calling it here for today, but tomorrow I’ll pick my top three and start planning them into a 4-panel layout. Can’t wait!
