My Zine-Soaked Saturday at the Library

It was pouring outside, but inside Harold Washington Library, I was swimming in zines, colors, and creativity. I want to be a tabler someday—together with my husband!

My Zine-Soaked Saturday at the Library
Look at this! The Harold Library's Winter Garden was packed—just people, people, people!

Today, my husband and I went to Chicago Zine Fest at the Harold Washington Library. It was pouring rain in downtown Chicago when we arrived at the library, but the event space was totally packed with zine lovers like nothing was happening outside!

We took our time and walked around to see every table. There were so many zines in all kinds of styles and topics—it was such a fun and colorful mix. My eyes were bouncing around like crazy trying to take it all in!

Ta-da! We ended up buying this many! I love events like this, where you get to say “I love your work!” directly to the artist. That kind of connection feels so special.

I was especially drawn to Maggie Umber’s illustration style and ended up buying two of her books! She told me how she made the colorful one on the left and that the one on the right came from a dream she had. It was so fun hearing that from her in person!

And check out this color-burst table from A.T. Pratt! I’ve never seen a pop-up zine before! It was so fun flipping through everything, and we spent a long time at his table watching him assemble the books and asking him how to read and enjoy them.

It was such a fun day—seeing so many cool works and getting to talk to the artists! It made me want to keep making more and more of my own zines, and someday I’d love to be a tabler at a zine fest with my husband together!
