Halloween Card Sketches: Narrowing It Down to 3

Today I picked 3 Halloween card ideas and made quick roughs! Tomorrow’s mission: more polish, more personality!

Halloween Card Sketches: Narrowing It Down to 3
I’m not sure I’ll make all of them, but I’m pretty proud—these three feel like my A-team!

Continuing from yesterday, I spent today working on my Halloween card assignment for My Imaginary Art School.

Out of all the ideas I came up with, I picked the top three that seemed most likely to work with some clever greeting card-style wording. Then I did 10-minute rough sketches for each. Just like last week’s assignment, I’m designing these to be postcards—so instead of filling the whole background with lots of detail, I focused on making sure the key illustration really pops, and left space around it so the layout feels clean and intentional.

I love this one—the little ant’s determination and the odd candy-to-ant ratio make the happy phrase even funnier!
This card design is meant to be die-cut so you can lift the bread flap and write a message underneath!
I played around with different compositions—and even experimented a bit with typography too!

Tomorrow, I’m planning to refine these sketches by focusing on facial expressions and the way arms and legs are posed—basically upping the level of detail and expressiveness!
