Halloween & Holidays: Double Research Week!
This week I’m researching both Halloween and holiday themes—one for class, and one for a real October card project!

It’s week three of the Storytelling course at My Imaginary Art School! This week, I’m doing double research: one part is for a project I want to create in October, and the other is for this week’s assignment. The theme of the October project is “holidays,” and this week’s theme is Halloween! Since both are event-based themes, I’ve been super excited about them from the research phase already. I’m planning to make Halloween-themed cards to sell at the CPG Publishers Fair 2025 on October 25, which my husband will be exhibiting at—so I’m tagging along under his name. That makes me feel even more fired up about this week’s assignment than usual!

Yesterday, I started gathering references for both themes using Pinterest, and I also browsed Reddit threads like “Halloween Mashups” to collect fun and weird ideas. Then today, I looked back through the research and started imagining what kind of stories I could build around these ideas, plus did some casual doodling to brainstorm.
For the holiday theme, that’s all the work I’m doing this week. Starting tomorrow, I’ll be focusing entirely on Halloween—expanding the story and jumping into some rough sketches!
