Halloween Risograph Prep
I spent the day getting my Halloween postcard ready for risograph printing at Spudnik Press. File separation, ink planning, and some last-minute masking tweaks!
Today I worked on the color separation for the Halloween postcard I’ll be printing tomorrow at Spudnik Press! I’m planning to place a small stack of them at the corner of my husband’s table during the Chicago Publishers Fair 2025 on October 25.
When I’m drawing the illustration, I’ve already decided which inks I’ll be using, and each layer is painted using just one color. So converting each layer to black for printing isn’t too tricky. What takes a bit more work, though, is redoing the clipping masks I use for shadows or highlights—remasking them so each layer can stand on its own as a single, print-ready separation.
Once that’s done, I rename each layer with the color name and ink percentage, then group them by ink color. The final step is to export individual PDFs for each color layer.
Fingers crossed for smooth printing tomorrow—I’m so excited to see how it turns out!
