Happy July 4th!
July 4th means fireworks to me—whether you're launching them or just watching, here's to a safe and sparkle-filled holiday!
Happy July 4th!
When I hear “July 4th,” I immediately think of fireworks. Back when I first moved to the U.S., I was so surprised that all kinds of people in all kinds of places were shooting fireworks into the night sky! In Japan, you can easily buy handheld sparklers at the store, but giant aerial shells? Those are done by professionals—you can’t just get them yourself.
In fact, Japan has fireworks festivals all over the country in summer. It’s a tradition to get together with family or friends and go watch the fireworks. Originally, these festivals began as a memorial to comfort the souls lost in World War II. Now, they’re major events that draw big crowds from Japan—and all over the world. When a professional pyrotechnician launches a massive shell, there’s a rumble like thunder, and the night blooms with bright flowers in the sky. It takes your breath away. It’s such a special time.
Whether you’re launching fireworks or just watching from below, please stay safe and have an amazing July 4th!
