It’s the end of June—which means it’s time for the first-ever Monthly Charlie’s Playground!

From now on, I’m going to write a little end-of-month roundup on the last day of each month. It’ll be perfect for folks who are new to this blog and don’t know where to start, or for those who’ve been too busy to keep up with daily posts (I see you! I am you!).

So here are the highlights from Charlie’s Playground this June!

🎨 This Month’s Top 3 Illustrations!

The grandpa ear-hair I didn’t use for Something Long
It’s a design that lets me celebrate all kinds of happy occasions in a way that feels very me!
My first soup painting!

💌 My Favorite Blog Post This Month:

Printing Day at Spudnik Press (June 12)
I finally printed Something Long! One upside-down file and one ink surprise later, I still had so much fun.

✏️ Favorite Phrase I Wrote:

100 Blog Posts!
I started this blog thinking, “It’d be nice if I could post every day… maybe?” with very low expectations. But somehow, I actually managed to write one post a day—for 100 days in a row! And I’m still going strong. For me, that’s a huge achievement!

🧼 Author’s Note:

June was basically All Riso, All the Time.
I joined a workshop at Spudnik Press, printed Something Long and 6 other works , and went to the risograph meetup at Lot’sa.

Even though all my work starts as digital illustrations, printing them with risograph adds this tactile joy. Holding the final pieces in my hands completely satisfies my creative cravings.
Sharing them in person makes it easier to connect with people—and best of all, I get to see their faces light up the moment they react to my work. That’s the moment that makes me think, “Yep, gotta make something weird again soon.”
This month, risograph gave me so much joy and satisfaction. Definitely a good June.
