Ms. Christmas Tree’s Makeover Time!（ミス・クリスマスツリーのおめかしタイム！）

The very first piece for the Osusowake Club!

This piece started as a pencil sketch, then was redrawn and colored in Procreate, and finally printed on the Risograph SF 5130 using Light Teal, Federal Blue, Yellow, and Tomato inks.

It features Ms. Christmas Tree, all excited and full of anticipation, getting ready in front of the mirror. Behind her, an elf stands on a box, wobbling on tiptoes, doing his best to help decorate her back.
I wanted to capture that joyful moment at the very beginning of the holiday season!

おすそ分けクラブ第一弾の記念すべき第一作目！

この作品は、鉛筆でアイデアスケッチをしたものを、プロクリエイトに描き写して色塗りをし、最終的にリソグラフ印刷機 SF 5130を使って、Light Teal・Federal Blue・Yellow・Tomato の4色インクで刷りました。

いそいそ、ワクワクとホリデーの主役、Ms.Christmas Treeが鏡の前でおめかししているその姿。背後では、箱の上に登ったエルフが足をプルプルさせながら背伸びをして、彼女の背中にもオーナメントを飾ってくれている。
そんなシーンを描きながら、ホリデーの“始まりのワクワク”を封じ込めました！

Ms. Christmas Tree was inspired by Japan’s queen of pop, Ringo Sheena.
Her bold gaze, confidence, and aura of knowing her own beauty—those were all qualities I imagined in this character.

Ms.Christmasのキャラクターのインスピレーションは、日本のポップの女王、椎名林檎さん。
彼女の持つ、主役感・自信・美しさを知り尽くしたような眼差しを、ツリーに重ねて描いています。

Funny enough, I almost scrapped this piece!
The digital version felt right, but the initial risograph print didn’t have the same energy. Her expression didn’t shine.
But after adding one more layer of Light Teal to suggest pine textures, and redrawing her facial features in knockout white with a soft shadow—it finally worked!

Maybe because it took the most effort—or maybe because it was the first—I now love this piece the most.

実はこの作品、一度はボツにしようとしていたもの。
プロクリエイトで描いた時の雰囲気と違って、Ms.Christmasの表情がうまく浮き出てこなかったのです。
だけど、ライトティールのインクを追加で1層重ねて松の木の質感を出し、顔の表情を白抜きの上から描き足し、少しシャドウを入れることで…
ついに女王のような存在感を取り戻しました！

最初はうまくいかなかったからこそ、たくさん手をかけ、時間を置いて見直したことで、一番愛おしく、自慢の一枚になりました。

There’s even a 4-panel comic I made during the process called “Ms. Christmas Tree’s Makeover”! I’d love to digitize that sometime too.

I hope by now Ms. Christmas Tree has finished her makeover… and that she shines this holiday season! 🎄
