Color, Chaos, and Comfort: My Go-To Zine for Off Days
When I’m feeling off, I reach for How to be alive by Tara Booth—a colorful, chaotic zine that somehow always gets me laughing (and feeling seen).

Whenever I’m not feeling like myself, I always find my hand reaching for this zine comic.
I discovered How to be alive by Tara Booth last year at Zine Camp 2024 in Chicago. I came across it at the South Side Zine Library, and was instantly drawn in by its wild colors and characters—intense yet totally hilarious.
It’s definitely self-deprecating and not exactly the kind of thing I’d open on public transit, but the “that’s so me!” moments throughout always make me laugh. Even when I’m off my game, this zine reminds me that I’m not alone—and that maybe life doesn’t always need to make perfect sense to be worth smiling at.
