No sad postcards allowed
I fixed some distracting snow and resized the artwork so it’ll fit in frames and envelopes around the world. No sad postcards here!
I checked yesterday’s tweaks again today, and noticed something: the swirling snow next to the girl was way too much. It was pulling the viewer’s attention away from the dancing! So I redrew the snow on the left side of the girl, making it a bit softer and less distracting.
And then—I realized something important.
The size of the art!
I want to send these pieces not just in the US, but also to Japan and Europe.
But envelope and photo frame sizes are slightly different in each place.
I’d been designing it at the US postcard size (4x6 inches), but decided to make a new size that also works with A6, which is the international standard.
So after comparing the dimensions, I went with 102mm x 148mm (4.016 x 5.984 inches). Basically, I chose the shorter side from each standard—since one is always just a little taller or wider than the other.
How sad would it be if someone loved the illustration, but couldn’t fit it into a frame or envelope?
Hence: No sad postcards allowed.
Also… can we talk about how weird US paper sizes are? And inches? And ounces? Who decided this?? So strange!
