Pocketful of Prompts and Wandering Wonders

What happens when you take your sketch ideas for a walk in the spring sunshine? Tulips, houses, and a blooming kind of creativity.

Pocketful of Prompts and Wandering Wonders
Ideas in Bloom. Straight from my head!

Yesterday’s illustration?
It was actually an experiment!

I asked ChatGPT to come up with about ten prompts using tulips, picked a few I liked, tucked them into my head like little seeds, and set out for a 30-minute walk. As I strolled, I let my mind wander around the ideas—glancing at flowers blooming along the sidewalk, discovering charming houses, swinging gently between thoughts and sights.

Somehow, in that dance between looking and thinking, ideas began to sprout. I carried them back home and turned them into sketches. And that's how yesterday’s illustration came to be!

Usually, I sit at my desk, frowning and fussing my way through the idea stage. But lately, Chicago has been soaked in the kind of warm sunshine that practically begs you to go outside. It felt like such a waste to stay in—so I tried taking my ideas for a walk instead. And it totally worked!

This little game was a big win. I’m definitely playing it again!
