Prototype Box for My Horse Omikuji

Today I finally made a prototype for the horse omikuji box using a clever design inspired by a Japanese snack package. It works!

Prototype Box for My Horse Omikuji
I went with the family-size box because I wanted the biggest one I could get! It’s been a while since I last had Koala’s March, and it tastes just as nostalgic as I remembered!

Today I got back to working on my horse omikuji project!
I finally tackled something I’ve been meaning to try for a while—prototyping the omikuji box!

I’ve been researching how to design a box that lets the fortunes slide out easily, and during that process, I came across a kind soul on Instagram who shared a method using the packaging of a classic Japanese snack, Koala’s March. I used their idea as a reference and gave it a try!

At first, I cut an opening near the bottom center of the box, thinking that would be the right spot for the fortunes to come out. But that turned out to be a mistake—so my husband helped me cut a hole in the corner of the hexagon-shaped box instead. Now, with the new design, the fortunes are naturally guided toward the hole, making it much easier to pull them out. I think this version works much better!
