Researching Horsey Facts for My Omikuji Zine
Gathering fun facts about horses, donkeys, and zebras for my new zine project—perfect for the Year of the Horse!
Today, I spent some time brainstorming and doing a bit of research—with help from AI—on fun facts and common traits of horses, zebras, donkeys, unicorns, and pegasi. These are the characters I sketched yesterday, and now I’m getting ready to turn them into part of a new zine project!
At the end of this month, my husband and I will be tabling at the DePaul Zine Fest, and I’d love to bring a “Horse Omikuji” zine with me to celebrate the Year of the Horse.
There’s still so much I didn’t know! For example, a horse’s mane actually exists to protect its neck. Zebras don’t have the strong lower backs needed to carry riders—trying to ride one could seriously injure them! And donkeys? Their kicks are sniper-level precise. Who knew there was so much to learn about these creatures?
