RISO Meetup Magic

I’m usually way too shy to talk to people, but thanks to risograph (my new secret superpower), I made real-life art friends! Bonus: I gave out Something Long and it made people smile.

RISO Meetup Magic
My trusty little book, Something Long, off to meet new people at the riso meetup.

Yesterday, I went to a RISO Meetup hosted at Lot’sa!
I’d never been to a meetup specifically about risograph printing before, but as you can probably tell from this blog… riso has taken over my brain lately. I’ve also been really wanting to meet other riso artists—so the timing was perfect!
So off we went—me and my husband, the usual two-person team!

Honestly, I’m super shy and usually not great at striking up conversations with strangers. But this time, having “risograph” as a shared language made all the difference. I was actually able to ask people things like, “What got you into riso?” “What’s your working process like?” “Where do you print?” without feeling weird or awkward at all.

@Maco-Soto_ gave me a mini lesson on how to fold books!

And! I gave away copies of my latest work, Something Long! Everyone was like, “Wait, what is this??” and happily took one.

This was one of the pieces I totally fell in love with at the May riso event at Lot’sa—and I actually got it directly from the artist this time! Yay!

Some people even swapped it for their own riso prints that they were selling at Lot’sa. (Thank you @heveanlygrandpa!)

I’ve always wanted to find an art community. A group of people who share the same kind of joy. And I realized—it’s right here!
This event made me even more excited to keep making work. It made me want to connect with more people through risograph, and to keep sharing the joy of riso with others.
Huge thanks to @catdroool for hosting such a warm, inspiring gathering!
