Second Day Vibes
Taking it slow on January 2nd with cozy vibes, cute slippers, and a hilariously unexpected gift for my husband.
After the burst of energy I had yesterday—sketching and printing with my Riso—I spent today in full-on New Year holiday mode, just relaxing and taking it easy.
I’m still figuring out how to spend January 2nd in the U.S., but in Japan, we call the first three days of the year “Sanganichi,” and they’re considered official New Year holidays. It’s a time for watching TV (like the Hakone Ekiden, a college relay race from Tokyo to Hakone and back), visiting relatives, and checking out the first big sales at department stores. There are events going on, but overall, it’s a time to slow down. So I figure… this kind of chill day is totally okay. Maybe tomorrow too!
Today’s highlight? Opening a late Christmas gift from relatives: an adorable pair of fuzzy slippers with a smiley face on them. But the real moment of the day was when my husband unwrapped his gift—only to find what was clearly a women’s beret. We laughed so hard we cried. Easily our first big laugh of 2026!
