Visiting the Wizard of Oz Exhibit at Driehaus

These replica Ruby Slippers were $5,000 in 1989, which means they’d be about $12,000 in today’s money!

Today I went to the Driehaus Museum downtown with my friend! We’d heard they were showing an exhibit called The Land of Oz: Beyond the Page—with things related to The Wizard of Oz, which we both love—so of course we had to go!

The number of items on display was actually pretty small, but we still had a lot of fun!

One thing that really stood out was a piece from the flower field scene, right before Emerald City. The background painting of the Emerald City was shown, and just below it, there was a black-painted area—that black section was where the live-action part would be filmed! Apparently, the production team painted it that way to help remember the scale difference between the background and the actors in the scene. It was such a smart and creative trick, especially from a time before CG or green screens!

Inside the Driehaus Museum, there were tons of luxurious Christmas trees on display, but my favorite was this super chic one decorated with pearls. So elegant!
