Sunflower Ink Redemption Arc

Today’s riso challenge: sunflower yellow ink, gradient experiments, and one very speedy lemon.

The one on the right is the original data—it’s not completely invisible, but I wanted it to show up more. The left one was supposed to be 100% opacity everywhere, but somehow the body ended up with a pretty nice-looking gradient.

Today I challenged the riso machine again!

This time, I reset my mood and chose Sunflower—a warm orange-y yellow ink. I’d already heard this ink behaves pretty well, but just to be safe, I ran about 20 sheets through confidential mode first.

Then it was finally time to print today’s illustration: a running lemon character!

I made this lemon look like it was dashing forward at full speed. And because I wanted to keep testing gradients today too, I loaded the illustration with tons of them… but somehow the print still came out kind of faint.

I kept making new versions of the file and adjusting the density over and over, but the lighter areas just kept becoming too light. Eventually I decided, “Forget it—today’s goal is simply to get a strong, bold print,” so I remade the whole file using solid black data.

…And yet somehow, the arms and legs still ended up looking gradient-y anyway.

Oh well!

The density chart printed nicely though, so I’m satisfied!

And of course, I didn’t forget to print more of my density swatches too. Those turned out pretty nice!
